- Protect the environment of domestic ports and secure safety for people at sea
- Inspect implementation of security measures to prevent the threat of international terrorism
- Protect the shipping market by policing substandard vessels
- Prevent accidents caused by human error by inspecting qualification standards and labor conditions for crewmen
Primarily inspected vessels
- Vessels with high Target Factors
- Select vessels to be inspected with consideration to age of the vessel, recent inspection date etc.
- Logon to the Asia Pacific Computerized Information System (APCIS) and check vessel information (target factors such as substandard vessels)
- Vessels with malfunction reports lodged by port authorities or pilots
- Vessels notified after PSC inspection from another port authority
